For Sales Division Leader Shayne Merrick, recruiting is anything but ordinary. In his 13th year with ThinkingAhead Executive Search, Merrick has successfully placed over 400 candidates worldwide and laid the foundation for innovative sales recruiting.
Growing up in New Palestine, Indiana, Merrick’s competitive spirit was developed through a passion for soccer and in a round-about way led him to Purdue University. As a senior management major, Shayne encountered the sales and leadership program through Southwestern Advantage where he evolved into a leadership role while building a business for six years. After years of recruiting, training, and leading student salesforces, Merrick discovered his enthusiasm for recruiting. When Shayne was introduced to ThinkingAhead in 2006 by fellow recruiter Stephanie Maas, Shayne waded into search as a member of the Career Services team, quickly landing one of the top performers within his first year. In 2018, Merrick detached to develop a new Sales Division where he would build a team who specialize in recruiting and placing hard to find talent in a variety of industries worldwide ranging from consumer goods, healthcare and real estate to industrial and financial services.
Merrick’s recruiting process relies on building. Whether it be by developing databases, candidate pipelines, or relationships, Shayne’s specialty is searching for and identifying candidates who fit the specifications of the search that have the passion and qualifications necessary to make an impact in their new roles. Using his history with Southwestern, Shayne has built life-long connections with both candidates and clients within the sales industry.

As a board member of the Better Business Bureau and a former campaign chair for United Way, Shayne’s involvement in the community helps shape his recruiting process in more ways than one.
