Keeping a New Year’s resolution can sometimes seem impossible; a whole 12 months can feel a lot shorter when it is the beginning of a new year. With all of the unknown and craziness that 2020 has brought, it seems harder than ever to be able to accomplish what you set out for at the beginning of this year. But maybe, as you approach the end of the year and beginning of the last quarter, it is time to make it the best it can be. Consider these three ways to set yourself up for success in the rest of 2020:
Set a Realistic and Specific Goal
The more specific and realistic a goal is, the more likely it will be achieved. There is nothing wrong with a smaller goal, and many resolutions fail because people try too much, too fast. Write your goal down and put it somewhere you can see it every day. In doing so, you can visualize yourself accomplishing that goal. As the year comes to a close, think of something that you know you could absolutely accomplish before that last day of December.
Show Yourself Grace
You must remember to show yourself grace in the face of failure. You can always start again if you fall behind by just a day or two, or even more. Small changes lead to bigger changes, and these changes change the way you think. 2020 has been the year of unknown, and for that you must still be flexible at all times. Being flexible does not have to mean losing sight of your goal.
Finish Strong
Plan for success. Understand that you are the drive behind any personal change. Step out of your comfort zone and believe in yourself. You cannot dwell on the past or current failures. Do not reconsider what you believe needs to be changed; your brain can try to talk you out of the change. Be confident and disciplined in yourself. Get that bonus! Get that promotion! Let’s all take Quarter 4 and the rest of 2020 by the reins by taking a step forward; it is the least we can do after all that it has thrown at us.
