Position Summary:
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) leads fundraising and marketing initiatives to generate over $3 million annually. A strategic leader and senior executive, the CAO collaborates with the CEO, executive team, board members, and volunteers to develop and execute comprehensive resource development strategies—including major gifts, events, grants, and sponsorships.

The CAO cultivates, solicits, and stewards major donors with a focus on long-term engagement. This role also oversees the organization’s marketing and communications efforts, managing one staff member and coordinating volunteers. As part of the executive team, the CAO brings strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and strong management skills to advance the organization’s mission.
  

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy
  • Collaborate with the CEO, executive team, and board to align and implement fundraising and marketing strategies.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Board’s Development & Marketing Committees, offering leadership and strategic guidance.
  • Oversee the department’s budget, ensuring effective resource allocation, expense control, and revenue alignment.
Resource Development & Donor Outreach
  • Design and lead an annual resource development plan with ambitious, measurable goals.
  • Inspire and guide a high-performing Board Committee to identify, cultivate, and secure donor support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and agencies.
  • Manage the full donor stewardship cycle, prioritizing donor engagement, retention, and increased giving.
  • Lead face-to-face solicitations and support board members and staff in donor outreach.
  • Maintain a robust portfolio of major donors, securing five-figure transformational gifts.
  • Oversee fundraising events, in-kind donation drives, and sponsorship efforts to maximize revenue.
  • Manage a comprehensive grant strategy, including proposals, renewals, and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate donor records and collaborate with the Finance department to reconcile donations and maintain transparency.
  • Track fundraising income, project cash flows, and communicate progress regularly to the CEO.
  • Contribute to fundraising planning and lead special projects like cause-related marketing and signature events.
Marketing & Communications
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase awareness and enhance the organization's image in South Central Kansas.
  • Oversee content for: Website, Social Media, Annual Reports, Donor/Organization Marketing Materials.
  • Promote Club programs to boost youth and teen participation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve public relations and demonstrate the Club’s impact.
  • Lead digital, print, and media campaigns to strengthen brand identity and community engagement.
  • Manage the production and distribution of all organizational publications.
  • Align all communications with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Serve as the primary media contact.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Represent the organization in the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience in a management role with a track record of securing major gifts and raising $1M+ annually.
  • Proven ability to lead fundraising campaigns, build donor relationships, and drive strategic initiatives.
  • Experience across all fundraising areas, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, sponsorships, planned giving, and communications.
  • Strong understanding of departmental budgeting and financial documents.
  • Proficient in Salesforce CRM, donor databases, prospect research, and wealth screening tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a professional, empathetic, and ethical approach.
  • Creative and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe programs.

Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation for the role of Chief Advancement Officer includes a competitive salary ($100,000-$110,000) commensurate with experience and an excellent package of employee benefits which includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, professional development, leave and holidays.
