The VP will manage a portfolio of the organization’s most complex commercial relationships, partner closely with senior credit leadership, provide informal mentorship to junior bankers, and serve as a visible representative within the Michigan business community.

Key Responsibilities Business Development & Market Leadership
- Originate and expand high-value middle-market and commercial relationships across Michigan.
- Drive market growth initiatives aligned with the organization’s commercial banking strategy.
- Build market presence through COI engagement, community involvement, and industry networking.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of quality opportunities, including complex credit structures and larger exposure relationships.
- Serve as primary relationship manager for key commercial clients, including privately held companies, family-owned businesses, and mid-sized enterprises.
- Provide strategic advisory support related to growth capital, working capital optimization, acquisitions, and treasury solutions.
- Deliver a proactive, high-touch client experience focused on retention, expansion, and long-term partnership.
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, projections, and industry trends to evaluate credit risk.
- Structure and underwrite complex facilities including term loans, lines of credit, CRE, equipment financing, acquisition financing, and asset-based lending.
- Prepare and present comprehensive credit packages to senior credit committees.
- Actively manage portfolio risk through ongoing monitoring and early issue identification.
- Partner closely with credit officers and underwriting teams to balance growth and risk.
- Collaborate with Treasury Management, Deposit Operations, Fraud/Risk, and internal partners to deliver integrated commercial banking solutions.
- Identify opportunities to deepen relationships through deposits, cash management, payments, merchant services, and fraud mitigation tools.
- Provide informal mentorship and guidance to junior relationship managers and credit analysts.
- Collaborate across markets to support broader commercial banking initiatives.
- Participate in internal strategy discussions and represent Commercial Banking in client and cross-functional engagements.
- 10+ years of commercial banking or middle-market lending experience.
- Proven success managing and growing a complex commercial loan portfolio.
- Demonstrated ability to originate and close significant commercial credit transactions.
- Advanced financial analysis, underwriting, and credit structuring expertise.
- Strong knowledge of Michigan’s business environment and regional industries.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required; MBA or professional certifications (e.g., CTP, CFA) preferred.
- Experience with treasury and cash management solutions strongly preferred.
