Project Engineer - Substation

Overview
 
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional to lead a small group of engineers and CAD specialists—typically around five team members—focused on developing both physical layout and protection/control aspects of substation projects. This individual will serve as the signing engineer for most deliverables produced by the team and will also take the lead in managing client relationships, supporting ongoing projects, and helping cultivate future work opportunities. The role reports directly to the Divisional Manager.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Core Responsibilities Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Guide, mentor, and coordinate the workload of junior engineers, designers, and CAD technicians assigned to the team.
  • Support the development of Project Engineers I and II through hands-on coaching and oversight.
Client Interaction & Business Support
  • Serve as a primary contact for designated customers, ensuring successful execution of ongoing projects and high satisfaction levels.
  • Assist in maintaining and expanding business with select clients, including discussions around future project needs.
Technical Expertise & Engineering Work
  • Demonstrate broad proficiency across multiple substation engineering disciplines, including physical layout design, protection and control, relay settings, field support, commissioning, and testing.
  • Lead or perform engineering tasks such as calculations, design coordination, and use of specialized software and reference materials.
  • Prepare, review, and direct the creation of detailed project documentation, including specifications and bid packages.
  • Review full plan sets, providing markups and feedback to ensure design clarity, completeness, and alignment with engineering intent.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Utilize standard Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) for daily tasks.
  • Carry out other related duties aligned with the purpose of the role.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Five to ten years of relevant engineering experience in substation design.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
