Senior Structural Designer/Detailer - Substation & Transmission
Senior Detailer / Checker, Substation & Transmission Structures (Remote)
About the company
A fast-growing, owner-led steel fabrication and engineering firm focused on substation structures for data center and utility projects. The company is under five years old and has about 30 U.S. employees. It is privately held by its founding partners and has low debt. It has two utility approvals, a backlog running well into 2027, and new facilities and equipment coming online.
The role
You'll be the senior hands on the drawing side of a lean engineering group. You'll review and check work from a 10-person offshore engineering team in India, and you'll detail your own packages. Engineering throughput is the company's current bottleneck, so your work directly affects project delivery. As detailers and designers are added, there is a clear path into team leadership.
What you'll do
- Read and interpret prints, then check detailing and design work for accuracy and constructability
- Review and mark up drawings from the India-based team and manage revisions
- Detail substation structures, including A-frames, H-frames, static masts, and poles, in AutoCAD Inventor
- Work independently or alongside the broader team to keep projects moving
- Coordinate across time zones, which occasionally means early or late calls
What we're looking for
- 3–5 years of experience in power transmission or substation structure detailing
- Hands-on experience with A-frames, H-frames, static masts, and poles
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Inventor
- Strong print-reading and checking skills
- A degree is not required. Hands-on experience or an associate's degree is fine.
What's offered
- Base salary of $75K–$100K, depending on experience
- Fully remote, with occasional travel to the office
- A real seat at the table with meaningful responsibility
- A stable, owner-led company that cares about work-life balance
- Target start date: before year-end or January 2027
