Transmission Line Engineer

As a Mid to Senior Transmission Line Engineer at QTIB Engineers, you will take ownership of high-voltage overhead and underground transmission line projects (69kV to 500kV). You will serve as a primary technical decision-maker, leading projects through the full engineering lifecycle from initial routing to final construction deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Decision-Making: Take day-to-day responsibility for engineering judgments, structural analysis methods, and line routing selections with high autonomy.
  • Engineering Design: Perform complete engineering and modeling for high-voltage transmission lines using PLS-CADD software suites.
  • Deliverable Creation: Develop comprehensive engineering packages, including structure framing, conductor sag-tension reports, clearance calculations, and foundation designs.
  • Workflow Optimization: Establish and refine standard design criteria, engineering templates, and quality control workflows to maximize team efficiency.
  • Client & Project Coordination: Partner with project managers to interface with utility clients, define project scopes, and ensure technical alignment.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to client specifications, environmental constraints, and national codes like NESC, ASCE, and IEEE.
  • Team Development: Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and QA/QC reviews for junior engineering and design staff.
  • Construction Support: Oversee construction phase support by resolving field issues, reviewing material submittals, and responding to contractor RFIs.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred, or a verified path to obtain it within 6-12 months.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 to 7 years of progressive experience dedicated to high-voltage transmission line design.
  • Software Mastery: High proficiency in PLS-CADD (including structure modeling and criteria development) and foundation design software.
  • Decision-Making Ability: Proven capability to take ownership of technical projects, make independent engineering judgments, and defend design choices.
  • Leadership Ambition: Clear desire to advance quickly into a management role and take on expanding team-building responsibilities.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to write clear technical reports, specifications, and interface effectively with project stakeholders.

Location & Work Model
  • Orlando Metro Area Applicants: This position operates under a flexible hybrid work model (90% remote, 10% in-office). Collaboration days will be spent in our local office, while daily execution can be performed from your home office.
  • Applicants Outside the Orlando Metro Area: This position is fully remote.
