SBA Business Development Associate
Role Summary
The SBA Business Development Associate is a key partner to the SBA Business Development Officer, responsible for initial deal intake and vetting, running financial analysis, supporting credit write-ups, and coordinating the collection of borrower documentation through term sheet execution and underwriting submission.
This role requires a candidate who is detail-oriented, organized, comfortable with financial statements and tax returns, and confident operating in a fast-paced SBA production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Intake & Initial Vetting
- Serve as a first-line support partner in evaluating inbound SBA opportunities.
- Collect and review initial borrower information early in the process (industry, purpose, structure, requested terms, basic financials).
- Work closely with the BDO to quickly "run through" opportunities and establish next steps.
- Organize deal information in a consistent format for pipeline visibility and internal alignment.
- Once borrower financials (tax returns, interim statements, etc.) are received, perform financial analysis and begin building the deal narrative.
- Assist with SBA deal write-ups using a structured approach (financial matrix methodology preferred).
- Support the drafting of:
- Financial analysis sections
- Strengths / mitigants narratives
- Borrower and business highlights
- Identify missing or inconsistent data and coordinate follow-ups to complete the file.
- Conduct soft credit pulls and assist with preliminary credit review.
- Support movement of deals from term sheet stage to underwriting package submission.
- After term sheet execution, coordinate gathering of remaining borrower documentation required for submission to underwriting/credit.
- Maintain complete, organized deal files with clean documentation packages.
- Work closely with the SBA BDO and credit partners to ensure efficient handoff and communication.
- Support pipeline management by keeping deals moving forward and proactively surfacing bottlenecks.
- Help accelerate decisioning timelines by ensuring packages are consistent, complete, and underwriting-ready.
