Location: Hilliard, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Compensation: Around $150K depending on experience
Overview
A growing construction group based in Hilliard, OH is hiring a Chief Estimator to lead all preconstruction and estimating efforts for projects across Central Ohio. This is a critical backfill role that will immediately step in as the senior estimating authority and begin building out the estimating team.
If you're a skilled estimator who can lead, strategize, and own the full preconstruction process, this role gives you real authority and a direct seat at the leadership table.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all estimating for projects within a 90 minute radius of Columbus
- Oversee the entire preconstruction lifecycle including conceptual estimates, schematic pricing, design development, and final GMPs
- Review drawings, specifications, and subcontractor bids to generate accurate and competitive estimates
- Develop takeoffs, cost breakdowns, schedules, and detailed scopes of work
- Build and grow the estimating department as project volume increases
- Partner closely with operations, project management, and senior leadership on project pursuit strategy
- Support business development efforts by providing early conceptual pricing
- Lead preconstruction handoff meetings to ensure smooth transitions into project execution
- Leverage software including Bluebeam, On Screen Takeoff, Building Connected, and RSMeans
- Maintain historical cost data and ensure continuous improvement in estimating processes
- Evaluate value engineering options while maintaining constructability and quality
Project Types and Values
- Commercial, industrial, and institutional work
- Typical project values range from 1M to 20M
- Larger opportunities include multifamily, healthcare, and specialty projects up to 100M
Qualifications
- Proven experience estimating commercial or industrial construction projects
- Strong conceptual estimating ability
- Experience leading or mentoring an estimating team
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, OST, Building Connected, and RSMeans
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple pursuits in a fast moving environment
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills

- Reports directly to the Senior Vice President
